To me a progressive is someone who deals with todays problems by looking beyond simply an immediate solution, but also how it will impact the future. Someone who is willing to listen to all ideas, then 'tweek' them, by perhaps taking ideas and blending them to find a solution not just for todays problem, but perhaps blocking another problem from arising in the future.
