A progressive understands that not everything is black and white, that 10 second sound bites are not the news, that most of the issues are shades of gray. A progressive understands that he/she is not the Center of the Universe, that all of us are together in this world and we all deserve certain basic rights and freedoms, including the freedom to have enough to eat, a place to live, a job that pays a living wage, health care when we are sick, clean air to breathe and clean water to drink. A progressive also realizes that this planet belongs to all who are living on it, including animals and plants and respects the earth enough to want to protect it from the destruction wrought by greed and avarice.
