Now that we have trusted conservatives to lead the nation, we have received the fruits of their labors: On the economic front, they have increased our indebtedness to foreign nations, weakened our ability to provide promised Medicare and Social Security benefits, (46 trillion of unfunded liabilities), guaranteed slower long term economic growth through budget deficits, current account deficits, sending our manufacturing capacity to China, etc... (How many service jobs does each manufacturing job produce? 7 to 1). By 2014, the federal debt will translate to $46,660 for each American. National security blunders like fighting the war on terrorism in Iraq, neglecting the development of Alternative Energy sources to deal with the challenges of Peak Oil, a resurgence of inflation, as demonstrated by the rise in the price of Gold, weakening of the currency, gutting of environmental regulations, and stewardship of the desires of only the weathiest Americans NOW demand a different brand of government and leadership. A Progressive agenda will focus on turning the Titanic from the course they have selected so that we have a chance to avoid the field of Icebergs they have steered our nation into. Turn the ship NOW before it is to late to change course, and an economic, political, ecological, and social meltdown take place.
