Progressives know that life is a rare gift, awakening us to a miraculous universe which we share together, for but a moment. And progressives know that extremely wealthy individuals, who ignore the lesson of their own mortality, and who only strive to gain the world, but lose their souls, have missed the point completely. They have turned the gifts of this world's resources and the labors of its people to their own narrow, material ends, rather than for the mutual aid and comfort of all of us, including the divinely ordained 'least of us.' We should not rationally deceive ourselves, into ever believing we could turn the universe into our possessions, for it is in fact the universe that possesses us. Our possessiveness keeps us from the kingdom which is at hand. Progressives know this, and that is why 'sharing' and 'fairness' is at the heart of their worldview. Progressives therefore believe that government, as with any human enterprise, should be an expression of our caring for each other and creation, and that if government is to work for 'we the people,' it must have people who will respectfully use government for all of our mutual benefit, as best as we can sincerely discern.
