These days that includes a right to speedy trials for terrorists, no use of torture, a stop to broad domestic spying, the right to dialogue with the government instead of listening to a monologue. This also includes the continuation of the separation of church and state. A progressive can be religious and left leaning. Discrimination should not be written into the constitution because of a false concern for the traditional roles of men and women in the family. A progressive is someone who believes in the freedom that the U.S. was founded on.
