The Progressive Movement agenda was first introduced to Americans by the Populists at the turn of the last century. But it is more relevant now than ever because the economic elites who defeated this grass roots movement of farmers and workers are still in power more than a century later. The movement can be summed up in the rally cry, 'They shall not crucify mankind on a cross of gold'. Progressives wants a fair society, one that cares for all its citizens. Progressives want a government that is efficient and effective. Progressives want real national security in the form of jobs, education, environmental protection, and national health insurance. Progressives want a foreign policy that reflects their belief in basic universal human rights, the rule of law, and the collective survival of humanity.
