To me the biggest distinction that sets progressive thinking apart is that instead of focusing on what is best for me and my immediate family the focus is on what is best for everyone? Instead of asking 'how will this benefit me and mine?' the question is 'what will work out best for everyone involved?' 'how will this impact people who do not have it as well as I do?' We will not be able to make improvements necessary to better this country/world if we are only looking out for ourselves.
