We all know that the playing field in this country isn't level. Some people are born rich, some not. But there are things that all people must have: food, housing, medical care, education. Neocons believe these are privileges of the rich, and if you are too poor to afford these things, it's your fault. Progressives believe these are basic necessities of American life, and that it is the responsibility of all citizens to make sure their fellow citizens have their basic needs met. The founders of this nation believed in public education and the public good. Why support anything less?
