I don't know that there is one way to describe what a progressive is, but I do know that there are some false notions about us. For example, that progressives are: anti-spirituality (vs. anti-fanaticism); care more about 'nature' than human beings (vs. caring deeply about both); and don’t take economics seriously (vs. seriously trying to develop a sustainable economy). Progressives in fact embrace many 'traditional values,' like social and personal responsibility, education, and a vibrant economy. However, we also recognize that current problems require creative solutions. Progressives, therefore, are informed, intelligent, concerned people, trying to create a positive future for us all.
