A progressive is a person who can think for himself about what is right and wrong, about how to treat others on this planet regardless of what nation the person is from, who sees all of us as the same, as people, who can respect other's beliefs as long as those beliefs don't hurt other people, who doesn't believe in blind religious faith, someone who believes in fairness not special privleges, someone who rejects corruption in politics and expects politicians to serve their fellow citizens fairly and justly. Political jobs are not a means to an end (like wealth and power), but an opportunity to do good for all people. Progressives reject oligarchy and the personhood of corporations and believes corporations and business have social obligations for the public good.
