A progressive is an optimistic realist. Conservatives are largely more optimistic than liberals. That's largely because conservatives ignore what they don't want to know, and liberals know more than they want to. But progressives see all the problems in the world and KNOW there are answers to them. We know that, with the right incentives, people and businesses and even the government will do the right thing.
