Progressives believe that government can improve peoples lives. Government can soften the rough edges of capitalism, even out the distribution of wealth, improve the health and security of the people, and lead to greater justice and freedom. Progressives believe in collective solutions, universal education and universal health care for example.Collective solutions have a long history in America; those who feel our successes have all been due to capitalism are very missinformed. Our very government is a collective solution, as are our fire departments, police departments, court system, and so forth.
