(I suggest the question should refer to 'Who' rather than 'What')A progressive is one who seeks remedies for the social, economic and pollitical ills of his/her time. A progressive in our time works to find a balance between the power of those who govern and those who are governed, to reduce the gap between the rich and the poor, to restore the political/judicial checks and balancess laid out in our Constitution. A progressive is one who works to protect the life, liberty and freedom to pursue happiness of the middle class and the working poor against the self-serving interests of the powerful and privileged. Inevitably, power corrupts; a progressive seeks to neutralize that corruption so that no group holds unrestrained power over any other group.
