A progressive is someone who believes that the government is not inherently a bad thing, that it can be used for good. It can be a tool of the majority to protect themselves from the unchecked power of corporations and from the tyranny of the government itself. This is in contrast to Republicans or Conservatives who think all government is bad and then run for office so they can prove it.
