A progressive is someone very much like me. We value the democratic system under which we live, while lamenting the loopholes that dishonor it. We value the ideals of the Constitution, while understanding that many of them have yet to be fulfilled. We balance our cynicism and despair with an optimism about the potential that is inherent in our Bill of Rights. We love our country, but we believe that human rights for all overrides any narrow patriotism. And we believe in free speech, because we believe that all must have their say, and that our cause is ultimately the most persuasive.
