A progressive is someone who is committed to effecting change, within government and society as a whole, which contributes to the common good. (Hugo Chavez of Venezuela is a good example of a progressive.) A progressive is someone who champions social causes, such as universal healthcare, public education, including college, and other social safety nets, such as early childhood intervention programs, rehabilitation programs, etc.A progressive is willing to spend a fair amount of her/his income to pay for these social changes, because she/he benefits when society, as a whole, benefits. (Norway is a good example of this.)
